INTERCREATION

Part of Wichers' art realizations is rooted in sharing her art practice with groups of different ages and backgrounds. The inclusion of voices and actions of those who have no particular artistic background enriches the dialogues that come to existence. This collaborative way of working is developed within the European networks of MUS-E® Art at School initiated by the International Yehudi Menuhin Foundation https://www.menuhin-foundation.com/mus-e/ and currently active in 13 countries. Wichers and MUS-E Belgium co-ordinator Tom Goris connected art in education to the fields of welfare and leisure.  They named this way of realizing inclusive art by professional artists: intercreation.  From 2000 on they worked close together with a dedicated team to establish through this concept a connection between 'the art world' and society.  Currently Wichers is member of the MUS-E Belgium board of directors.  www.mus-e.be

IMPROMPTU ACTION

Wichers travels a lot throughout Europe to share intercreation methods with artists and coordinators in the above mentioned networks. For this project she traveled with contemporary dancer Milton Paulo to Portugal to exchange interdisciplinary art methods with MUS-E Portugal artists in the framework of IYMF project Moving Voices/Green Islands: How to implement the theme of ecological awareness in collaborative artistic work with groups? During their flight from Brussels to Lisboa, Wichers spotted the many lunchboxes that were handed out to the passengers. She asked the steward not to throw them away but to put them in a bag. Arrived on the airport Paulo and Wichers made green islands on the floor. Putting down and picking up each flatted box became an improvised dance. In the session with 20 artists, each participant made a small sculpture of one box which became the inspiration for collaborative stories and dance.
